Last week, the pirates unveiled the USB stick capable of jailbreaking the PS3 and allowing it to run burned games and homebrew software. Sony, however, didn’t turn a blind eye to this. Sony Computer Entertainment Australia recurred to the Australian Federal Court and were granted a temporary injunction, blocking importation and sales of the “PS Jailbreak”, as it’s currently called, until August 31.

Not only the stores are prohibited from selling the device, they also have to hand all of them to Sony until August 31 comes. Sony is currently fighting to turn this temporary solution a more permanent one and making the device illegal in Australia. If they fail to do it until the deadline, the device will go back to the shelves.

While the PS Jailbreak was created in Australia, making it the biggest market for the device so far, the PS Jailbreak has now breached the country’s borders. Still, it’s nice that Sony dealt a blow to the pirates. Let’s hope they succeed in permanently prohibiting the PS Jailbreak sales.

But, unfortunately, we know that once these things are out, it’s only a matter of time until they are everywhere in all shapes and colors.
